Summer of the Arts is excited to announce a collaborative project with Toyota of Iowa City to support and promote young, local, Johnson County artists.
Creating a Legacy of Local Artists is a project aimed at supporting and encouraging emerging artists (age 18-22) to pursue a career in the arts by providing the opportunity for their first commissioned piece.
Applications are now being accepted for an original piece of artwork that will be featured at the Iowa Arts Festival June 2-4, then showcased at Toyota of Iowa City.
According to owner Mark Dreusicke, "Our family wanted to provide a new opportunity for young, local artists who have not already had exposure - a way to present their talent. We look forward to this becoming an annual award, expanding our support of local artists and strengthening our partnership with Summer of the Arts."
Johnson County artists between the ages of 18-22 are eligible to apply. The application deadline is May 1, 2017. The selected artist will be notified by May 8, 2017, and receive a commission totaling $3,000 for their original work. The piece must be completed by May 26, 2017.
