Iowa City Community Carnival Parade

Celebrate the arts in Iowa with us by taking part in the 2018 Iowa City Community Carnival Parade to kick off the Iowa Arts Festival June 1^st.

This will be the 6^th year of the parade and each year we aim to show our communities what a special place the arts occupy in Iowa. The parade is a chance for your group to display your banner, join in the fun, and dance in the streets of Iowa City. Unlike other community parades this one focuses on artists from all walks of life and backgrounds and the arts they contribute to make Iowa the vibrant place that it is. The Iowa Arts Festival and this parade is our opportunity to shine!

We welcome any festival vendor or presenter to join us in the parade and hand out any flyers to invite the crowd to your booths or performances. The parade has roots in Caribbean and Brazilian carnival parade traditions so feel free to decorate yourself and your members as much as you would like, from makeup to t-shirts to all out costumes, banners, small wagon floats, and flags.  You are welcome to come with your own music systems or to follow or join our drum ensemble. There are also carnival costumes available for individuals or groups to view, borrow and wear during the parade. You will be able to view and choose one starting May 1st.
