About:
Raised in Iowa City, Iowa, Mimi Ke is a circus artist, choreographer and teaching artist exploring the field of aerial dance and specializes in aerial silks and rope.
With an ineffable hang for movement, Mimi has travelled around the world to perform and build her craft. To Mimi, aerial dance is action painting, sheer life experienced through energy in motion, with space, physics and rhythm as its main ingredients. She draws from her background with dance and yoga as a way to create circus performance.
As an aerialist, Mimi has performed and choreographed with Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance, in cabarets, circuses, dance festivals and site-based performances around the world. She continues to create her own aerial work as well as participate in cross-disciplinary projects. Most recently she performed in Butoh choreographer Tadashi Endo’s work, Ohaka in Oaxaca, MX and as Clara in the ballet circus rendition of the Nutcracker in Charlotte, NC. Her passion for improvised based work drives her creativity, allowing her to express the freedom of aerial dance and the spectacle of theatrical circus.
