About:  

All of my work is hand carved using traditional woodcarving chisels. I use butternut wood or cottonwood bark depending on the subject. I finish my work with acrylic paints or oil stains and paints.

I hand carve wooden bowls from burls (a growth on a tree) that have a grain pattern that is varied and unique. I keep the outside of the burl bowl as close to it’s natural shape as possible.

I show my appreciation of diversity in the different tones of exotic and domestic wood in the boxes and furniture. Fine sanding and finishing bring out the natural colors and beauty without stain.

Using a wood lathe, I turn reclaimed trees & exotic burls into 1 of a kind bowls, vessels & platters. Some are enhanced with turquoise stone, dyes or acrylic resin. All are finished with polyurethane.

I seek downed trees with special grain & color. No rare species. Lathe shapes are formed showing natural wood character and function. Finish: penetrating oil and very durable food safe oil varnish.
