Goliath

The hard hitting contemporary quartet “Goliath” is a project led by Dave Thaker, local jazz guitarist. The group features Jerome Gillespie Jr. on drums, Blake Shaw on bass, and Jarrett Purdy on keyboards. All members are graduate students from the University of Iowa, and their combined inspirations from their time at the university and beyond are on full display in this group.

Each of Goliath’s individual members have an overall breadth of work that includes touring across the U.S., guest artist work, and a multitude of recording projects. In addition to original music, the group is excited to bring fresh, new arrangements of all kinds of jazz virtuosos, from Herbie Hancock to Ben Wendel to Braxton Cook.
