Rooted in Iowa City, Hard Luck & the Troubles deliver a potent blend of soulful, gritty Americana that bridges the gap between country tradition and blues-driven energy. Led by the piano and vocals of Roland Racevskis—who pens all of the band’s original material—the group features the powerhouse rhythm section of Billy Valencia and Josh Weiner. Alongside guitarist Ryan Phalen and special guest Marc Janssen (fiddle/steel guitar), they deliver a high-energy performance steeped in gospel roots. With an honest, whiskey-soaked sound and a self-titled debut album slated for 2026, they are quickly becoming a must-see act on the modern roots scene.
