About:
The Levi Temple Sextet, led by trombonist and composer Levi Temple, brings to the Iowa City Jazz Festival a refreshing and modern palette of jazz compositions from Levi’s 2025 release How We Got Here. With influences of hip-hop, R&B, ECM, and traditional jazz, Levi’s music lends itself to all music fans alike while remaining compositionally rooted in the jazz practice. Levi is proud to share the stage with close friends and colleagues Sean Kiefer (trumpet), Tyler Utter (saxophones), Oisin Leopold (piano), Vincent Valadez (bass), and Jackson Schou (drums), all of which are featured on the SkyDeck Music release. Levi hails from Monticello, IA and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa, of which all members of the group are either students or alumni.
