About:
Bad News is a sextet based out of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Members include Tyler Utter (alto), Johnny Hartleip (tenor), Luke Sanders (guitar), Max McBride (piano), Michael Gedden (bass), and Jackson Schou (drums). Under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Conrad and Professor Chris Merz, Bad News explores the jazz stylings of legends like Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, and Mike Stern; as well as contemporary artists like Marbin, Nate Smith, and Gerald Clayton. On May 1st, 2021, Bad News recorded their debut album, We Get that A Lot, comprised of all original compositions inspired by the band’s eclectic tastes and backgrounds.
