I create mostly Midwest landscape paintings in either Oil on gesso board or Gouache on hot press watercolor paper.

Inspired by nature. My acrylics have texture using palette knives, brushes and found objects or pouring paint. The watercolor techniques include; wet into wet, dry brush, spatter or dropping paint.

Most of my work is portrait based on small to medium sized canvas’ with acrylic paints and pens. My subject matter is highly influenced by old school hip-hop and icons within the hip-hop culture.

A variety of narrative illustrations ranging from pencil, ink, and watercolor in which figurative work meets fantastical environments and fun shapes.

Abstract, realism or a mixture of both.

I try to capture the beauty of the natural landscapes around Iowa and places I have traveled in the past in my paintings and I am particularly drawn to sunsets. I have tried several different styles and mediums of paint but I mainly work in acrylics. My other passion is in ceramics and although I mostly throw on the pottery wheel, I have been experimenting with handbuilt animals and structures lately. I also delve into drawing and create images of animals using ink pens and occasionally colored pencils.

Paintings are oil on mahogany board. Process is free-hand drawing of subjects onto board, then building up thin layers of oil paint using soft brushes to achieve minute detail and a smooth surface.
