About the Free Movie Series
Started as a pilot program by M.C. Ginsberg and the James Gang in 2005, the Free Movie Series features a full-length movie on the University of Iowa Pentacrest outside of Macbride Hall. Each week moviegoers enjoy a classic or contemporary feature film. Movies start at sundown, and we offer special entertainment prior to some of the feature films. In 2012, Summer of the Arts purchased a large inflatable screen which provides a smooth and clear picture for our beautiful outdoor theater. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the movie!
Movies take place outside of Macbride Hall (on the East side of the building) on the Pentacrest at sunset (which varies from 8:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. later in the season).
What to Bring
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Urban Acres, one of our Free Movie Series sponsors, has a relationship with Marcus Theaters, which means that you can also enjoy tasty movie theater popcorn…on the house! Just visit their sponsor table before the start of each film.
In Case of Rain…
In case of rain, the movie will be shown at 8:30 p.m. inside Van Allen Hall Auditorium.
